Advertising & Affiliate Policy

This policy explains how paid content appears on MEDUZA and how it is kept apart from editorial work.

Labelling

  • Every paid placement carries a visible label — “Sponsored” or “Advertisement” — and names the advertiser.
  • Paid links carry rel="sponsored".
  • Advertising uses the magazine’s typography so that it sits well in the page, but it is always boxed, labelled and distinguishable from stories.

Independence

Advertisers do not choose editorial topics, see stories before publication or ask for changes to them. Editorial stories are not written to promote an advertiser, and a paid placement never appears inside a story’s list of sources.

Affiliate links

MEDUZA currently uses no affiliate links: we earn nothing when you follow a link in a story. If that changes, any story containing an affiliate link will say so in plain words above the first such link, the link will carry rel="sponsored", and this page will be updated first.

What we do not accept

  • Advertising that shames bodies or ages, or promises to “fix” them.
  • Fake urgency: countdown timers, invented scarcity, misleading discounts.
  • Unsubstantiated environmental or quality claims.
  • Counterfeit goods, and anything unlawful in the places where it is advertised.
  • Advertising disguised as an editorial story.

Ad technology

Placements are served from our own server as an image and text. There are no advertising networks, third-party ad scripts, ad tracking pixels or advertising cookies on MEDUZA. Readership as a whole is measured with Yandex Metrica, an analytics service described on the Privacy page; advertisers receive no data about individual readers. If an ad network is ever introduced, this page and the Privacy page will be updated before it is switched on.

Current state

When no placement is booked, the advertising positions are simply not shown. To ask about a placement, see Advertise. To report an advertisement that seems to break this policy, use the contact form.
